A 32-year-old man has been charged with the murder of British singer Emeli Sande’s rapper ex-boyfriend, Hypo.
Laurie John-Phillip, from Enfield, north London, is accused of killing the performer, whose real name was Lamar Jackson, shortly after midnight on Friday, June 3.
Mr. Jackson, 39, whose tracks included Flex On My X, First Night, and No L’s, was stabbed to death at a party in Woodford Green, east London.
John-Phillip was arrested on Saturday and will appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with murder and possession of a bladed article.
Twisted party-goers are said to have filmed the fight, with at least one recording the moment medical workers attempted to resuscitate the rapper before callously sharing the clip online, sparking fury on social media.
Hypo, who recently got engaged, had reportedly got into a ‘trivial row’ at the party, being held in a large marquee, before being fatally stabbed.
In the hours before his death, the rapper filmed himself being driven in a Bentley on the way to the event in an Instagram story shared with his 23,000-plus followers.
The performer later filmed himself rocking sunglasses and smoking while dancing inside the marquee with friends.
Scottish songstress Emeli and Hypo dated for around a year before splitting in 2017, but are said to have remained friends.
