An investigation is underway after at least 22 people were found dead inside a famous tavern in East London, South Africa.

In a statement, Eastern Cape Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinko Kinana said the deceased were reportedly aged between 18-20 but could be younger. Investigators also said a party was held at the tavern to celebrate the end of winter school exams, as reported by Sky News

“We will immediately be embarking on autopsies so we can know the probable cause of death. We are talking 22 bodies right now,” said Siyanda Manana, spokesperson for the Eastern Cape provincial health department.
